NANS JCC Ondo State Commends Governor Aiyedatiwa for Ending the Strike Crisis in State Universities
On behalf of students across Ondo State, the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC), Ondo State Axis led by Comr. Adekanye Mayomi (Inec) , thanks the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for stepping in to end the strike that has kept our state-owned universities shut.
We did not sit back and watch. We engaged the Governor directly and laid our plights and demands before him. He listened to every one of them, and he promised to act within two weeks. He kept his word. The State Government met with the university unions and reached an agreement on implementing the Federal Government-ASUU agreement, along with outstanding salary adjustments, allowances and other welfare issues.
For us, this is more than the end of a labour dispute. It means students can finally return to their lecture halls and laboratories, and get back to the education that this strike has interrupted.
We also commend the Governor's decision to domesticate the Federal Government-ASUU agreement for our state-owned universities. It will improve the welfare of lecturers and strengthen the quality of tertiary education in Ondo State.
Our appreciation also goes to ASUU and the other stakeholders who chose dialogue over deadlock, for the sake of peace in our institutions and the future of education in our state.
We equally commend the various union presidents across our institutions for standing firm with the students throughout this period and for their role in ensuring that this agreement was reached. Special appreciation goes to the National President of NANS Comr. Akinteye Babatunde (Babtee) and the leadership of NAUS Ondo state, for their consistent support and solidarity with students in Ondo State.
When schools are shut, students carry the heaviest burden. That is why our interests must always come first in any decision on education. This episode shows what listening and honest dialogue can achieve.
We now call for full implementation of every agreement reached, so that our institutions enjoy uninterrupted academic activities.
*Education must continue. Students must move forward.*
NANS JCC Ondo State remains committed to protecting and promoting the interests of students.
