BEYOND PUBLICITY: A LEGACY OF STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
End-of-Tenure Report of the Office of the Public Relations Officer
Unified and Redefined Era Administration
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)
Joint Campus Council (JCC), Ondo Axis
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Office of the Public Relations Officer plays an important role in communicating the activities of the Council, keeping students informed, and maintaining a good relationship between the leadership and the student community.
Throughout the tenure of the Unified and Redefined Era Administration, the Office worked to improve the public image of NANS JCC Ondo Axis, strengthen its media presence, promote its activities, and ensure that important programmes and engagements received adequate publicity.
Beyond the routine responsibility of issuing announcements and publishing event materials, the Office focused on improving the Council's branding, expanding its digital presence, organising media operations, encouraging student engagement, and introducing initiatives that promote communication and leadership development.
This report presents the major achievements, initiatives, and contributions of the Office during the tenure, as well as the efforts made to preserve its records and provide a foundation for future administrations.
2.0 MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS AND INITIATIVES
2.1 Institutional Rebranding and Digital Media Expansion
One of the major achievements of the Office was the improvement of the Council's public image through consistent branding and better management of its digital platforms.
Official publications, including press statements, event flyers, announcements, congratulatory messages, and advocacy materials, were prepared with greater attention to design, presentation, and consistency. This helped establish a more recognisable identity for NANS JCC Ondo Axis and ensured a more uniform appearance across its official publications.
A significant step in expanding the Council's digital presence was the creation of its official TikTok page. The initiative was aimed at reaching a wider audience, particularly young people who actively use the platform, while providing another channel for showcasing the Council's activities, promoting its programmes, and sharing important information through short-form video content.
The Council's social media platforms were also used to share official announcements, programme updates, advocacy messages, and reports of its activities. Together, these efforts strengthened the Council's online presence and provided more opportunities to communicate directly with students and other stakeholders.
2.2 Establishment of the NANS JCC Ondo Axis Media Team
To improve the quality and coordination of media coverage, the Office established a dedicated Media Team to support the activities of the Council.
The team contributed to photography, videography, graphic design, content creation, publicity, and event coverage. Its involvement provided additional support for official programmes and created opportunities for students with relevant skills and interests to contribute to the work of the Council.
The establishment of the team also provided a more organised approach to covering important events and capturing significant moments throughout the administration's tenure.
2.3 NANS Ondo Publicity and Oratory Summit (NPOS) 2026
The NANS Ondo Publicity and Oratory Summit (NPOS) 2026 was one of the flagship initiatives of the Office of the Public Relations Officer.
The summit was held on Thursday, 17 September 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Millennium B, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, under the theme:
“Shaping Influential Voices for Effective Leadership and Responsible Communication.”
NPOS 2026 was organised to promote public speaking, effective communication, responsible advocacy, and leadership development among Nigerian students.
The initiative reflected the Office's commitment to going beyond publicising the activities of the Council by creating opportunities for students to develop their communication skills and confidence in public expression.
The summit also highlighted the importance of effective communication in student leadership, media engagement, and public discourse. It represented a deliberate effort to use the platform of NANS JCC Ondo Axis to encourage students to express their ideas clearly, communicate responsibly, and participate more confidently in leadership and advocacy.
As a flagship initiative of the tenure, NPOS 2026 stands as a significant contribution of the Office and provides a foundation upon which future administrations can build similar programmes.
3.0 COMMUNICATION AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
3.1 Improved Information Dissemination
The Office worked to ensure that official information about the Council's activities reached students and other relevant stakeholders through its communication channels.
Announcements, meeting updates, programme details, advocacy statements, and other important information were shared to keep the student community informed about the Council's activities and positions on relevant matters.
This approach supported transparency and helped maintain a clear communication link between the Council's leadership and the students it represents.
3.2 Student Engagement and Responsiveness
The Office maintained communication channels through which students could make inquiries, seek clarification, express concerns, and provide feedback on matters relating to the Council.
Attention was given to making official information accessible and encouraging constructive interaction between the leadership and the student community. This reinforced the importance of public relations as a means of listening to students and responding to their concerns, rather than simply sharing information with them.
3.3 Media and Stakeholder Collaboration
The Office recognised the importance of collaboration in extending the reach of the Council's activities.
Engagement with campus media organisations, student journalists, and other relevant communication stakeholders supported the wider dissemination of information about official programmes, advocacy efforts, and major engagements across tertiary institutions in Ondo State.
These relationships created opportunities for broader coverage of the Council's activities and strengthened communication with stakeholders beyond its immediate media platforms.
4.0 CRISIS COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC CONFIDENCE
The Office also recognised the importance of responsible communication when handling sensitive matters or situations involving conflicting information.
In such circumstances, emphasis was placed on accuracy, timely clarification, and careful communication. Where necessary, verified information was shared to address misunderstandings and ensure that the Council's position was communicated appropriately.
These efforts reflected the responsibility of the Office to protect the Council's reputation, maintain consistency in its public statements, and support public confidence during challenging situations.
5.0 DOCUMENTATION AND PRESERVATION OF RECORDS
Throughout the tenure, the Office made efforts to document the administration's programmes, activities, and major engagements.
Official publications, photographs, videos, press releases, media reports, and other communication materials served as records of the work carried out by the Council. Particular attention was given to documenting major initiatives, including NPOS 2026, so that their activities and significance could be referenced beyond the period in which they took place.
Preserving these materials is important for institutional continuity, as it provides future administrations with useful references and a clearer account of the Council's activities during the tenure.
6.0 CONCLUSION
As the tenure of the Unified and Redefined Era Administration comes to an end, I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as Public Relations Officer of NANS JCC Ondo Axis.
The tenure provided an opportunity to contribute to the Council through improved branding, the creation of its official TikTok page, the establishment of a Media Team, more coordinated digital publicity, student engagement, media collaboration, and the organisation of NPOS 2026.
These initiatives reflect the efforts made by the Office to strengthen the Council's public image, improve its communication operations, and create opportunities for students beyond routine publicity.
While there is always room for improvement, I am confident that the work done during this period provides a useful foundation for the next administration. I sincerely hope that future Public Relations Officers will sustain the progress made, introduce new ideas, embrace changes in digital communication, and continue to represent the Council with professionalism and responsibility.
Ultimately, the value of a Public Relations Office lies not only in the publications it produces, but also in the initiatives it introduces, the relationships it builds, and the records it leaves behind.
It has been a privilege to serve and contribute to the work of NANS JCC Ondo Axis under the Unified and Redefined Era Administration. I appreciate the opportunity and trust given to me, and I hope that the contributions of this Office will remain useful to the Council and the students it represents.
Yours in Service,
JOHNPAUL O. ALABI (MAKINS)
